Prelude to the USA

The Mexico District of the MetOpera Laffont Competition offers its Competition winners two benefits offered by no other Competition District:

A three-to-four-day intensive coaching and support program, our Prelude to the USA, to take them to their peak performance level, preparing them to compete at their very best in the next regional round of the Competition, and
A Winners’ Concert appearance in San Miguel de Allende, which will challenge them to learn new material, will require them to work as an ensemble, to learn to craft of staging, and to work with an intensely creative production team that will take them as artists to new levels they will be proud to have been a part of.

The Prelude Coaching Program

The Goals of the Rocky Mountain Prelude are:
• To prepare the winners of the Mexico District Laffont Competition for the next round of the Competition in Denver, CO;
• To bring them to their peak performance level to compete internationally;
• To introduce them to the standards of the international opera industry; and
• To place them in a collegial setting with mentors who can continue to guide their careers.

Our Competition winners spend 3-4 days at the University of the Americas in Puebla.

They have one-on-one classes every day with two American maestros and two Mexican maestros: an American voice teacher, an American voice coach, a Mexican stage director, and a Mexican voice coach.

Each class is devoted to perfecting one of the four arias they will be required to be ready to perform in the regional level of the competition in the United States.
They have access to the excellent music school facilities of the university.

They are lodged in a very comfortable hotel in Cholula, where informal time and easy access to the maestros is possible.

The finale of the four days of classes is a public concert, either on the UDLA/P campus or in the Teatro de la Ciudad in downtown Puebla, followed by maestro feedback as to their performance skills.

The program is offered to the singers at no cost to them, thanks to the generous support of the expat community in San Miguel de Allende and to a generous foundation in Mexico City.
